Beech Mountain NC, URSUS

Beautiful Beech Mountain, NC is on a peak overlooking seven mountain chains of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Beech Mountain was originally called "Klonteska" by Native Americans. The High Country's coolest destination with an average of 80 inches of natural snow and temperatures rarely as warm as 80 degrees, "the Beech" is a natural for a variety of summer and winter recreational activities and sports!

The restaurants and Inns have music and beer tastings plus a wide variety of quirky festival events year round. Close by is the Scottish festival/ Highland Games up on grandfather mountain which boasts typically 35,000 people every year!

  • Skiing, which is wonderful and has fantastic slopes, restaurants, ski and snow board lessons, holiday events and more.

Snowboarding is allowed on all slopes, along with skiing. Roads to the South's premier ski village are cleared after every natural snowfall.

Sledding is allowed for children on the hill outside Beech Mountain's Town Hall only a few minutes from the slopes.

Hiking trails are identified as Easy, Moderate and Steep on maps available from the Visitors Center and Fred's General Mercantile.

Grandfather mountain has incredible hiking and can easily be a full day of activities with their zoo, information center, museum and cafe plus mile high bridge.

White water rafting, kayaking and tubing in the summer, there are multiple companies offering a wonderful experience on the rivers.

Nature walks with animals and birds abound since the area is an animal and bird sanctuary.

Fishing is allowed in local lakes and streams under restricted conditions (Fred's General Mercantile atop Beech Mountain has details and sells fishing licenses).

Biking competitions flow up Beech Mountain Parkway in the summer.

Six local golf courses welcome golfers (see Yellow Pages for details).

Fred's General Mercantile, at the summit of Beech Mountain, is an institution. An old-timey store, Fred and Margie claim "If we don't have it, you don't need it." Their Backside Deli feeds more people than any other restaurant on the mountain. Access their website for more information about the Beech Mountain community at www.fredsgeneral.com.

Charleston SC, Deltec-Mod

Where we are located AND According to the real locals (who’ve been here for generations), James Island is one of the areas that still maintains a feel of how Charleston used to be. It’s not as planned and manicured as some others areas of town, but you’ll drive down the road and have Spanish moss hanging over your car as you drive. There’s a very local feel here and there are plenty of old timer James Island folks who wouldn’t live anywhere else.

The house has a great location, and is on the water with incredible views. We built the house and placed the windows based on the marsh and creek location. You can be downtown in 7 minutes and you can be on Folly Beach in about 12 minutes, it’s the best spot in Charleston in my opinion.

The drive from James Island to Downtown is my favorite drive in Charleston, the views of the city and the harbor as you come up to the highest point of the connector are beautiful.

The area is full of delicious local

Food. Especially in Riverland Terrace which is like our little 5 points of James island. It’s about a 3 minute driveway and free parking. Or treat yourself to true artistic culinary dining anywhere in downtown Charleston. Folly beach is right up there with fabulous menus and eclectic restaurants to flip flop into on beach days. It’s very difficult to get a bad meal anywhere within a 15 minute drive.

James Island SC, Jungle Fever

Our vintage-modern, 1978 Shasta travel Travel trailer is the cutest and swankiest camper in town. “ Jungle Fever”  has been almost completely gutted and renovated with some original fixtures throughout.

It comfortably sleeps 3 inside.  It has a longer full bed and twin sized bunk bed.

In the kitchen there’s a 3 burner stove, deep sink (for proper dish washing) and a brand new fridge with freezer. For summer camping we have the original cold AC system to cool you down on hot nights.

Hi

I’M
ANNIE

THE MODEN WANDERER, I’m a Native Charlestonian, who’s been traveling for 27 years and cooking professionally for 29 years . I traveled my first 13 years alone and the last 14 with family. Both incredible ways to see the world, experience new cultures, make relationships and have variety in your travel itinerary. I value cultural experiences and making relationships over luxury and indulgent travel. I value simple encounters such as meeting local business owners, families and having food experiences. Walking through city markets, driving through small towns, and cooking while your travel. I appreciate living the way they live, eating the way they eat, enjoying what they enjoy just in living there.
